A U.S. Championship and an Olympic Silver Medal – quite a season for America’s newest sweetheart – Sasha Cohen.
Sasha’s success in 2006 followed another successful skating season in 2005, when she won Silver medals at the World Figure Skating Championships and the State Farm U.S. Figure Skating Championships.
Sasha also ended the 2003-2004 season with Silver medals at the World Championships and U.S. Championships. She has earned victories over every competitor who has medaled in previous Olympic competition and who remain eligible.
Sasha has returned to California and is in training with her former coach, John Nicks, at the Aliso Viejo Ice Palace.
She is as much an ambassador for her charities as she is for her sport. She is active in promoting her charities and quietly embraces causes that impact on youth and families.
Among Sasha’s six ISU Grand Prix victories is the 2002 Grand Prix Final – the first season she competed in the prestigious series.
Sasha is noted for wearing fabulously designed dresses at her competitions and plays an active role in their design.
Sasha is also making a lasting impression on the ice with her artistry and gorgeous spirals. Among the most memorable impressions are of her idol Audrey Hepburn’s Eliza Doolittle in “My Fair Lady” in 2004 and her “Romeo and Juliet” at the 2006 Olympics.
Gold Medalist and television commentator Peggy Fleming remarked after watching Sasha skate: “Other skaters may skate to ‘Romeo and Juliet’ but Sasha is Juliet.”
Sasha’s success on the ice combined with her popularity off the ice make her one of the most sought after representatives of her sport. She was among the finalists for the 2004 Teen People Award, an honor that represents all sports.
World-renowned photographer Mario Sorrenti, who spotted Sasha skating at a rink in New York City, photographed her for the high-fashion French V Magazine. Sasha has also been featured in Vogue, People, and a seven-page layout in Seventeen magazine.
Sasha joins the 2007-2008 Smucker’s Stars on Ice Tour as a full-time cast member after appearing as a guest performer in nine shows during the 2006-2007 season.
